The Itty Bitty Farm

I planted a container vegetable garden this year, in hopes of producing some of my own food.  The only thing I’ve been able to use so far, are the herbs.  I must say, it is working out quite nicely!  No more plastic bags of mysterious goo found in the fridge after I use three sprigs of cilantro for ONE recipe.  Although in its rudimentary stages, my ultimate goal is succession gardening, where I am harvesting something every couple of weeks, each season.  Somehow, eating something I have grown myself increases my enjoyment by adding a quality of pride.  Gardening, I have also discovered, is food for the soul.  Spending time in the beautiful yard in the gorgeous Marin County weather is the best way to start any day.  I have come to regard dirt under my fingernails as the must-have accessory of the season and, God help me, I LOVE the way my hand smells after it touches a tomato plant.  I gaze upon my budding morsels with the pride of a parent on graduation day.  Given that fact that I barely know what I’m doing, advice is more than welcome!

Six containers, six cubic feet of dirt, some plants, seeds, a dash of hope, and whole lot of fun.
